This book is incredibly sad, but it’s also incredibly inspiring. Like said in the author’s note, the level of human spirit and perseverance the characters in the novel have enlightened me. I am interested in this time period, especially as a Nebraska resident. My grandmother lived on a farm in Louisville, Nebraska. I so wish I could talk to her about these times. I loved the setting and imagery, the life nuggets, and the character development by both Elsa and Loreda. Hannah is officially an auto buy author for me. I love how she presents history in a new and engaging way; oftentimes with stories we haven’t heard before.
