The Fix is the first book in the Carolina Connections series by Sylvie Stewart. This is the author’s debut novel and what a debut it is! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I did read the second book in this series prior to this one but I knew as soon as I finished it that I needed to go back and read book 1 - I knew I was in for a fantastic read! The author has a fantastic writing style and her storylines are great. She combines humour with real life problems along with a lot of romantic moments! There were so many laugh out loud moments in this story, many provided by Laney and her best friend Fiona. One of the things that I loved about this book was how down to earth it was including the characters in it. They were just everyday people dealing with normal, real-life issues. It was such an easy book to read with a great pace.
The story is about Laney and Nate. Laney’s life hasn’t been easy; she found herself at 25, a single mom, stuck in a boring job and living with her bother who just doesn’t want to do anything! Finally her brother steps up and finds a job except Laney doesn’t realise just what might happen as a result of his new employment! Nate has returned home to take over the family business after a family emergency. When visiting a new site he doesn’t expect to be confronted by the local residents, one of which is extremely feisty and also in his eyes the most beautiful woman he has ever seen!
I loved Laney – one of the best female characters I have read about this year I think! She was taking what life had given her and was determined to make the most out of it! She provided some pretty funny moments and I loved the relationship she had with her son Rocco! He also was hilarious! I could picture some of the things that happened in that household!
Nate was just; well he was just hands down sexy! Not only did he sound sexy from the way he was described in the book but also the things that he did made him particularly swoon-worthy in my opinion! He was patient with Laney but also had that slight sexy alpha dominant male thing going on! I loved the relationship he formed with Rocco and that understood how important this was if he wanted to be a part of Laney’s life.
I really did love this story it had everything I like in a book, humour, romance and a very sexy male lead!! I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next because the two books that I have read by her so far have been excellent!!
If you are looking for a nice easy read, a story with lovely, relatable characters and a book full of humour and romance then I definitely recommend The Fix! You won’t be disappointed!
