I Was Here by Gayle Forman
4.0
A riveting and emotional exploration of what it means to be the ones left behind.
Cody and Meg were best friends growing up. They did everything together, planned their futures together, and Cody even relied on Meg's wonderful family when she didn't feel she had much of one. They were inseparable. Until they weren't. When Meg learns of Cody's suicide, through an email timed to be sent after her death so that no one could prevent it, she starts to wonder just how much she knew about her best friend, her "better half." Cody journeys across thousands of miles and logs of hundreds of hours of research on what Meg did in the weeks leading up to her death in an attempt to find closure for herself as much as for Meg's parents or anyone else.
A well-written work of art that will challenge anyone who's ever wondered if they could have done more. A must read.
