Bloom Boom! by April Pulley Sayre

4.0

This is larger than a typical picture book and great for story time. I love the drama of saying "blooooooom..." slowly leading into the next page and then flipping the page and having the families say "BOOM!" (that's not exactly how it's written, but that's how I did it). Everyone was engaged, even the babies.

Also, it's always nice to use non-fiction (or non-fiction-ish) books in story time for the opportunity to talk about real vs pretend. The photography in this is stunning, as with some of Sayre's other picture books ([b:Raindrops Roll|22540206|Raindrops Roll|April Pulley Sayre|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1403391082s/22540206.jpg|41991520] is another good one).

The best evidence that a book's a hit is when multiple people want to check it out after story time and this one almost caused a fight between two preschoolers. Luckily, one was convinced to take [b:Fantastic Flowers|31389271|Fantastic Flowers|Susan Stockdale|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480688599s/31389271.jpg|52078647] instead.
