All the Frequent Troubles of Our Days: The True Story of the American Woman at the Heart of the German Resistance to Hitler by Rebecca Donner

5.0

This is a beautifully written, moving account of those who resisted Hitler and Nazism within Germany, focusing primarily upon the efforts of one couple in particular, Arvid and Mildred Harnack. Author Donner is related to the American-born Mildred and shares numerous family accounts and letters within the pages of this book. Beyond conducting meticulous research, Donner shapes the story in an incredibly moving fashion. The best non-fiction, of which this book qualifies, approaches the level of classical fiction for its emotive impact upon the reader.
