A captivating horror novel with unnecessary supernatural elements and a back story that I didn't really understand. The cult setting was perfect for some freaky but realistic horror, so the addition of spirits and mind control was over-the-top and diminished the impact of the other events.

Also a note on the way the 15 year old protagonist (?) is written: I don't know what the attitude was like in the 1980's when the book was released, but I found the mix of the girl's childlike behavior and sexualisation of her physical attributes quite disturbing.
