This revisit of Sam and Tiel was not strictly necessary, but it was still enjoyable, mostly to see past events in the series from a different perspective. And, of course, it’s fun to see the characters all interact in new and different ways, not to mention getting to know them better.

The main storyline is a struggle because the subject matter is a difficult one. Trying to conceive and not being able to is stressful and heartbreaking. Other books I’ve read have addressed it and the “miracle baby” commentary fills the one and two star reviews. This is not that. I purposefully did not use the term infertility because unless a couple has been trying for more than a year and is unable to get pregnant, it’s considered normal. That’s not to say it’s not stressful.

Whatever your take on the main plot, I found it to be the least interesting part of the book. It did give us insight into Sam and Tiel’s relationship and we saw their story through their own points of view, which was cool because liked their first book so much. But what I really enjoyed was 1) all things Riley: him coming into his own, his shenanigans, his character development, 2) the Walsh siblings’ interactions, and 3) hints of upcoming books.

All in all a good book that helped flesh out the Walsh family dynamics.
