"Most prisons are of our own making. A man makes his own freedom, too."

I am all in on the Realm of the Elderlings after this. Granted, it was slow to get started - but I went in expecting this, based on reviews and the fact that we're taking less than 400 pages to set up a 16-book world here.

Once you grow accustomed to her style, Hobb's writing is so beautiful and immersive. This isn't one to go for if you're looking for all action, all the time, but I found Hobb to be a master at keeping my attention even throughout a slower, character-based story. And indeed, as I've heard many times before,  her character work is spectacular.

Assassin's Apprentice leaves room to grow as the series goes on, and I can't wait to see how these characters and this world continue to develop!
