Dark Nights: Death Metal: Multiverse's End #1 by Mike Golden, Juan Gedeon, James Tynion IV

4.0

This was a free comic available for Batman Day 2019 that I picked up Newbury Comics. I have seen the Batman Who Laughs / Dark Nights: Metal series, but this is the first of any part of the series that I've actually read. This read like a prologue to a major apocalyptic storyline, which is fitting given that that's - from my admittedly limited knowledge of the storyline thus far - what the Batman Who Laughs / Dark Nights: Metal storyline is. That atmosphere is also fitting considering that this is issue number one, which is supposed to set the stage for the rest of the story. I liked the card motif and that this began with background information, some of which could be understood on it's own and some of which will presumably be explained later. I probably will end up reading the Batman Who Laughs / Dark Nights: Metal series, although I plan to wait until the trade paperbacks are a little less expensive first.
