La Symphonie pastorale by André Gide

5.0

Quite short but a beautifully written masterpiece.

The protagonist, a protestant priest, adopts a beautiful, but blind girl, and tries to raise her although he already has 5 children. The way he constantly convinces himself that he is doing the right and most christian thing, although a lovestory evolves and he completely forgets his own children is fairly interesting. The book deals with a lot of topics, as moral, christian identity, love and death. Very good, and suited to most readers, since it on one hand can be understood as an interesting story but implicit contains a lot of discussions on interesting topics.
