It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over by Anne de Marcken
5.0
I read this, not expecting to find a visceral, lyrical litfic zombie novel that is also a meditation on grief (and what it would be like to carry around your head in a bag). It is slow and quiet for a zombie novel, but it worked for me because it leans into the specific details of what might seem like poetic imagery. What would it be like to put a crow in your chest? To be beheaded and survive? To feed your arm to your grandchild? Don't read this expecting zombie action. (You will not find it.) Read this for the strangeness and the way it shows how grief changes not just a person but their world. And also for the head in a bag and the crow.
