Drifting into Darkness by J.M. LaRocca

4.0

In Drifting Into Darkness, Sadie had moved to Texas after some problems had happened with her family caused them to move. She could have stayed in Chicago to continue on with college but after a 6 year relationship had ended, she made the decision to go along with her parents.

She meets Lisa, a friend I think everyone would love to have. Sweet, fun to be around, and one who helps you find your way. Through Lisa she starts to work at this family farm.

There she meets Landon.

Love his name. I fell for Landon right away. He doesn’t do relationships and always has girls vying for his attention. He is sexy, confident, and everything you want in a country boy.

I loved the chemistry between Ladnon and Sadie, she didn’t fall at his feet like the other girls. She was outspoken and good humored but not in your face. I loved these characters. I loved all the characters.

I was so entranced in this book, reading it quickly, totally engrossed, and then BAM! the ending happened.

That is what it is taking this from a 5 star book to a 4 star to me. It is not what the ending was but how it happened that is changing the rating for me. If I had a bit more time to absorb it, to work through it while reading before the book was over, it would have been so much better for me. It just felt like here is the ending smack in your face, a couple of pages of epilogue, and done. There was no time to work through the emotions.

You don’t want a spoiler in the blurb but man, I wish there was a warning system in place that said may cause whiplash

Up until that point, the last few pages, there was awesome character building, a beautiful story about too people who had been hurt in different ways, who were working through those issues. It was such a lovely story.

I really liked it minus the abruptness of ending and I definitely will be reading more from J.M. La Rocca.
