The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

3.0

I'm probably going to be a little more critical than most, but I really struggled with Isabelle's character being believable (just a little too outspoken in my opinion, given the time & setting) so it took me a while for me to get through the first half of the book. The second half is flying by, now that she's not as eager to get herself killed and is actually playing it safe. I think Vianne's character is much more realistic.

All that to be said, it is really difficult to be reading this book right now in America, where neo-Nazis are marching around. There have been multiple occasions where I've had to just stop reading, put the book down, walk away and come back to it. Normally, I could read a book like this in a matter of hours, but this has been hard to stomach, and it's taken me several months.
