Break the Mould: How to Take Your Place in the World by Sinead Burke

5.0

Break the Mould is an inspiring book about self acceptance. Though the book focuses mainly on disability it is all inclusive. It talks about race, weight, gender and sexual orientation.

There are a few exercises aimed at children to get them to open up or think more. Self appreciation is the key here.

As a 30 year old I am not really the target audience but as someone who has an invisible disability (Marfan Syndrome which is degenerative so not always invisible), plus size, hearing problems, pansexual and female this book definitely spoke to me. In fact I had requested an arc copy off of NetGalley but when I saw it in my local bookshop I bought it there and then.

I really felt seen when I read this. Though I did not like the inclusion of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's words. Do not miss understand me, my only objection is due to her TERF stance on Trans lives. I have a feeling however that this book went to print before she made her beliefs known so I do not hold this against Burke and over looking this had to give the book five stars.

This may just be one of the inspirational books I will always own. I would even go so far as to hope that Burke brings out an adult edition with a different cover and only miner changes to the wording of the book Work/home instead of school ect. Perhaps Burke could write an adult on instead!? If that came out I would be in the Que.
