Brain Wash: Detox Your Mind for Clearer Thinking, Deeper Relationships, and Lasting Happiness by Austin Perlmutter, David Perlmutter
3.0
Some helpful reminders, well-organized, and without the usual annoying pitfalls of self help genre stuff (like focusing on describing the problems but not giving workable solutions for the reader, using a personal lens exclusively, etc). I picked this up because it was on the new books shelf at my library, and I’m glad I skimmed through. I liked the included recipes at the end!
There’s some weird stuff here too, and my least favorite part was the descriptions of fatness & obesity that seemed to follow all the problematic medical industry tropes. There’s got to be a way to talk about foods and your brain without falling for those shame trap arguments. It doesn’t have to be a moral battle here, it can just be about the prefrontal cortex and whatnot.
