I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

emotional reflective sad fast-paced

3.75

intimate and raw, i'm glad my mom died is a memorable memoir thats obvs not ghostwritten and def deserving of its hype.

mccurdy mines and bares the minutest details from some of her most painful memories, letting the reader in behind the scenes of the glitz and supposed glamor of fame; an industry filled w/ competition, predators, abusers and enablers; but none was, heartbreakingly, was as abusive and manipulative as the author's very own mother.

the road to discovery and healing detailed in this book is a tough, long and painful one, not helped by the fact that there's more unexpected stones thrown along the way as well. mccurdy's an adept writer who excels at show-not-tell, and able to convey the complex emotions of both love and resentment towards the titular mom effectively, making this memoir stand at least a head above many of her peers'.
