Red at the Bone, by Jacqueline Woodson

4.0

It took me a while to get into it, but once I got there, I loved every page.
Woodson painted a deeply haunting picture of a complicated family. I loved how beautifully black it was, how she described the skins, the hairstyles, the attitudes, the Blackness, so amazingly.
I don't think the book is for everyone, it's the kind of book with no plot, just vibes. But I liked the vibes.
