Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein by Linda Bailey

5.0

A part illustrated biography - with a focus on the creation of Shelley's famous text - and part picture book in some respects, Bailey, alongside Sardà’s incredible, mock-gothic illustrations, guides us through the writer's life; highlighting all the elements that may have inspired her along the way.

The text is wholly accessible to any fluent reader but it's aimed towards UKS2+ and Sardà’s digitally enhanced watercolours just suit the theme and matter of the biography so well. An inspiring story that I suspect, many writers will connect with and wonderful in demystifying some of the stories around the fabled text's creation.
