The Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand

4.0

4.5 stars. I think this is my favorite one yet in this series??? I wasn't expecting that, and this doesn't seem to be most people's favorite, but man, something about it really got to me! I saw some complaints about instalove, and while I totally understand where that's coming from, it really didn't bother me here, and normally I'm against the slightest hint of instalove/instalust. I think it's partially because I felt like they really got to know each other inside and out despite the short time frame. I was really shocked near the end when
Spoilerthey were talking about having only dated for like 10 days before getting engaged, because it just felt like they had known each other and been together so much longer. I do almost wish they hadn't even mentioned how long they had technically been dating since I definitely wasn't keeping track of it myself, and it just didn't FEEL that short. But like I said, even with their relationship going so quickly, it still didn't really detract from the story for me. And it does help that they acknowledged how fast it was and were a little concerned about it themselves, and ended up planning on being engaged for at least a year or two before actually getting married.

I really loved both characters so much, and their relationship dynamic was so interesting to me, and not something I feel like I see very often? I liked that both of them thought the other was only interested in them for sex and was basically willing to take whatever they could get out of the relationship; it was a nice change to have them both be kind of insecure about themselves and their relationship. AND THEY TALKED THROUGH THEIR ISSUES, AND THERE WAS NO POINTLESS MELODRAMA!!! Man, I just loved how there really was no major conflict between them. Like, they would argue about things occasionally, but there was not a single time when they had a big enough argument that they wouldn't speak for several days or would avoid each other. I thought for sure when
SpoilerDominique found out that Jaime was a Corey that it would cause at least a couple days of him being angry at her, or that they would have a huge fight with him being upset with her for not being honest. And yeah, he was a little upset, but he still went to her family dinner with her! Which, speaking of, THE COREY FAMILY DINNER WAS THE ACTUAL GREATEST THING EVER. I WAS DYING THE ENTIRE TIME, especially Sylvain and Dominique basically forming a truce and becoming unexpected allies!!!! So great!!!!

So yeah, this was wonderful!!! I just love how Laura Florand writes romance, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!!!
