This Must Be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell

3.0

This is nearly a 4 star rating from me. My least favourite Maggie O’Farrell book.
Great writing. Characters that you’ll keep thinking about but, boy, does she make you work for it.

It leaps about in time and place and while I normally enjoy that sort of thing I was confused several times. Once I’d made a timeline and written a family tree it was easier.

I don’t think I cared enough about Daniel and I wasn’t invested in his relationship with Claudette. When the character of Rosalind is introduced at p 436, I was more interested/invested in her story than I was in Daniel. Ending that chapter with Daniel asking her what she is going to do and her reply of, ‘That is another story,’ was frustrating.
I was also disappointed that we did not find out more about her motivation for being in Ireland.

I suspect, though, that the characters will stay with me and in a few weeks ill wonder why I only gave it 3* review
