Capital Dames: The Civil War and the Women of Washington, 1848-1868 by Cokie Roberts

2.0

The women Cokie Roberts chose to write about are interesting, but there are quite a few of them stuffed into this book. They aren't organized in any way other than chronologically through the twenty year period. As a result, the book is really dense and hard to read. You can lose track of which woman you're reading about fairly easily. Obviously, there are exceptions like Mary Todd Lincoln, but there were times I had to backtrack to figure out who was being discussed and why.
