Say You Swear has gotten a lot of attention on Book Tok, and to be honest, I don't really understand the hype. This book was not written well. Not only were there many typos throughout, there were also moments when the scene was rushed so fast that I couldn't keep track of where the characters were, let alone which characters were speaking. I know this is part of a series and that information is not often shared on Book Tok, and to be fair, I did not read the other two books in this series. However, I think that this book can still be read as a stand alone. I found myself rolling my eyes at a few of the dramatic twists and turns which reminded me of a soap opera, and checking for the ends of chapters because the story was taking too long to get to the next interesting part. I'll admit that some parts made me tear up, and that there were some decently written parts in this book, but I'm just too disappointed with the overall poor writing to consider this anything higher than a 2 star rating. It feels a little more like a very long fan fiction than a unique novel. Sorry, but this does not live up to the hype.
