I loved Leah in Simon Vs., and I was so excited to learn that we get a whole novel from her perspective. And boy, I was not disappointed in the slightest. My girl is the sarcastic, foul-mouthed, awkward, bi fat queen that I needed when I was younger. I wish everyone could read this book for her alone; she is unapologetically herself, and I absolutely fucking adore her. She deserves the world.
Getting back to the world of Simon Vs. was so much fun. Simon is an absolute goddamn cinnamon roll that made me want to hug him literally every time he shows up (I settled for hugging the book). Abby Suso, Nick Eisner, even Garrett and Taylor, everyone here is so full of vibrancy and personality and they made this book impossible to put this down.
And, side note, can we take a moment and appreciate the humour here?! I absolutely DIED at numerous points, actually physically had to cover my mouth to keep from waking the house up, because this whole book was chock-full of so much hilarity. Abby's April Fool's joke? GENIUS.
This could have so easily been just another cute romance, but Becky has done it again, seeing into souls and writing things that I would never put into words myself but that I just feel so intensely when I see those words on the page. From moms with dating lives to money struggles to weight and body acceptance to sexuality, she touches on everything here, and I went from crying laughing to crying for real because of how much I felt for these characters and how happy I was that I got to experience this with them.
