Jesus, my heart. First, that author note completely and entirely shredded my soul. Not many notes are written in that way or really showcase a deeply root care for their readers, and for that alone, this book would have been a 5 star.
But let's talk about why it is.
The mental representation here is insane and I think the author did a beautiful job of writing a character that is not only extremely relatable in this regard but her story is so gut wrenching and I will absolutely die on that hill, her justice was not justice enough with what they did to her. Marla touched me on a personal level from the self-doubt to the toxic family dynamic, to her rise from the ashes moment is what I will call it. Brain demons aside, her comeback was amazing to watch.
Onto why I signed up for this arc even in the first place.
I'm a sucker for a stalker MMC and sebastian did not disappoint. This mmc is entirely and completely unhinged, and I could not love him more for it. The way he cares for Marla is swoon worthy with or without her knowing. The way he speaks to her. He is the embodiment if I couldn't walk, I'd crawl to you.
Without giving the end away. The end was just perfect. It tied everything up and while it is not maybe your conventional HEA. It is a hea. I'd love to see a book two with these two journey moving forward on the other side.
