The Legend of Gasparilla: A Historical Pirate Romance by S.T. Fernandez

4.0

A sweeping tale of betrayal and survival on the high seas, this is the story of the infamous José Gaspar. Separated from his fiancé Josefa shortly after their engagement, José is forced into an impossible situation at the hands of a woman who couldn't take no for an answer. To avoid his death, he ends up on a ship with Rodrigo, and finds himself under the employ of Captian Rodgers, a despicable pirate.

Josefa and her brother Armando head to meet up with Gaspar, only to find that he isn't there. For years, they search the sea for him, trying to get a pardon from the King, as he was innocent all along. This is the story about how Josefa never stopped searching for her love, and how José held an iron will to keep hoping one day he'd be reunited with her. This was wonderful, romantic, and adventurous the whole way through!
