Gloria Steinem by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara

4.0

My gratitude to Netgalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and the publisher for providing me an e-copy of this book in exchange of honest opinion.

It might sound crazy but I had no idea who Gloria Steinem is. Pathetic right? I'm glad to have read this book as it masterfully summarizes her life and the areas of her contribution in simple, attractive language. Gloria constantly travelled from one place to another in a trailer with her family until she was 10 which is when her parents divorced and she settled with her mom. Then we move on to the turning points of Gloria's life, her journalism career, using journalism as a medium to protest against sexism, how she turned into one of the most highlighted, accomplished feminist leaders. She co-founded the National Women's Political Caucus, Ms. magazine, Women's Action Alliance, Women's Media Center and created 'Take Our Daughters to Work Day' to help young girls understand future job opportunities better. I am in awe of this incredible, energetic woman! The illustrations were beautiful and well-done. As I was a stranger to her activities, I didn't understand what 'spending 10 days as a bunny' meant. I know now, ha ha. Overall, a great read.
