The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody

5.0

I loved The Chaos of Standing Still! I had never read Jessica Brody before but she's definitely an author I'm going to be watching.

The Chaos of Standing Still tells the story of Ryn who's trapped in the Denver International Airport on New Year's Eve due to a blizzard. While that's not a great situation, it's made worse by that fact that New Year's Eve is the one-year anniversary of her best friend Lottie's death. Having been unable to to truly cope that that huge loss, Ryn still keeps the last text message from Lottie unread on her phone. She doesn't want anything to tarnish the memory of her vivacious friend.

However, Ryn's ability to keep control of the message's unread status falters when she runs smack-dab into Xander and accidentally takes his phone by mistake. She then goes after Xander to switch phones and the two try to get through the night as best as they can.

Both Ryn and Xander are wonderfully flawed characters. They feel very real and you ache for the hardships they've gone through. Their blossoming friendship is really sweet to watch and I was left wanting more to their story.

Jessica Brody handled a really tough subject matter with such careful grace. It truly was a beautiful book to read.
