The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
4.0
4.5 stars. I saw the BBC production of The Crimson Petal last year, so this book held no surprises plot-wise. Even so, I read it quite quickly for my standards, which is a credit to the writer for making it so gripping. I loved the characters, all of them flawed and very human, and have a soft spot for Emmeline Fox, especially when she turns into a total festerer after Henry dies.
This is one of those books whose characters linger in the mind for weeks afterwards.
