Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi

4.0

Satrapi writes her childhood experience in both a simple art form and language. This simplicity, I would argue, is it's strength- the reader is thus challenged to take more time on simple images while still easily grasping the severity and emotions of the child-narrator's situation. It stands well on it's own, I only doc the one star because of Persepolis 2, which may be hypocritical but it makes this first installment feel far less nuanced. I would recommend this read to anyone who is new to graphic novels.
