The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah

slow-paced

3.0

I want to start by saying I understand why this was my favorite book when I read it 20 something years ago. I was like 13-14 years old when I read this book. My BOOKCLUB decided to re-read this book as a part of a throw back month. Winter has always been annoying to me when I was young. I felt sorry for Winter even though she was a grimy chick. Her relationship with her father was very unhealthy because she was chasing that relationship with all of the men in her life. The fact that Bullet creeped into her life and played with her didn’t surprised me. The way Winter treated her mother after her mother getting shot in the face was on brand for her character. Her interaction with sister Souljah and midnight was weird especially with her and the letters. I used to be in love with Midnight character and I felt like tried to help winter but she was a lost cost at a certain point in the book. Midnight relationship with Soujah was interesting to me especially because of the characters background. Winter father was trash because even after he got locked up he was still being on some BS with his side family. I was glad that midnight got the twins out of foster care and his sister. Overall I understand why I loved this book when I was young but Winter was so delusional. I hate to remember she was 16-17 when all of this stuff happened.
