The Tenant by Katrine Engberg
4.0
I was in the airport looking for a book that would occupy my time for 3 hours. The Tenant did just that.
Translated into English, this Dutch author sets up a dark mood that begins with a bizarre killing of a young woman, in which an intricate pattern of lines are carved into the victims face. As the story unfolds, those we think could be the killer in fact become victims. It kept the tension high as the detectives kept facing obstacles and more killings. Why these people, why the method of killing?
My only frustration was the continuous commentary of Inspector Korner's failed marriage. It didn't add to the story and the reader didn't need to hear about it more than a couple times to understand Korner's personal life.
Overall, it's a strong, fast paced story that provided tension and a strong climax. Looking forward to Ms. Engber's next novel.
