Playing Charlie Cool by Laurie Boris

3.0

Whilst this is billed as a standalone in a series, it does read as if it is the middle of the story and I felt that I was missing the start. I don't know if the earlier stories in the series would give me that start - perhaps book 1 by the blurb. I also felt that there was more to come from Charlie and Josh.

An intriguing take on a late out man, Josh, coming to terms with his decision whilst being under pressure from his ex wife, her family, his father's expectations, society, and even Charlie to a lesser degree.
Most of the book the guys are not even with one another as most of their relationship is chasing odd snippets of time on the phone, usually by text. The pressure on both from work and to develop their relationship is huge and this came across. Having said that, both needed a good slap around the head at times!
There are a load of women obviously working hard for them behind the scenes, orchestrating them back to each other. And I believe Josh makes the right choice at the end to stop running.
I liked the light touch of the writing, an easy to read story - it is aching for more of the guys.
