God's Smuggler by Elizabeth Sherrill, Brother Andrew, John Sherrill

5.0

“God’s Smuggler” by Brother Andrew is a compelling Christian nonfiction biography that chronicles the life of Brother Andrew, the founder of the Open Doors charity, which supports persecuted Christians worldwide. The narrative follows Andrew from his adventurous childhood, where he dreamt of becoming a spy and engaged in acts of sabotage against the Nazis, to his wartime experiences as a soldier where he sustained a serious injury. After his miraculous healing, Andrew embraced a life of faith and missionary work, venturing into communist countries like Czechoslovakia and Russia to smuggle Bibles and support underground Christian communities.

Reading about Brother Andrew’s missions and his stories of God’s protection and provision was both inspirational and challenging. It was strange and a little emotional to hear him talk about getting into communist Czechoslovakia as I’ve been three times to Slovakia with our church worship team. I met so many Christians there at the Christian youth music festival. I would recommend this book for any Christian readers, particularly those who read fiction but would like to explore nonfiction true stories.
