I was very surprised at the number of times rape was casually threatened in this book. I understand why, and the characters doing so were very obviously supposed to be despicable, and that is why they would so casually threaten something so horrible. Didn't make it any less jarring to have the threat tumble so easily out of major character's mouths every other time they showed up on the page.
