Batman: Year Two 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition by Todd McFarlane, Paul Neary, Alan Davis, Mike W. Barr, Alfredo Alcala

4.0

3.5 stars. I really wish Goodreads would let us do something other than full star ratings.

Mike Barr’s full Reaper cycle is presented here together. The story is compelling and the action sequences are fun, though Barr throws in some strange character actions at the end of “Full Circle” that seemed to come out of no where and seem counter to how the characters had behaved up to that point.

A young Todd McFarlane makes the most of his time taking over for Alan Davis in the “Year Two” storyline, using his flair and dramatic staging of pages to make the Batman almost a force of nature. Which was great, but ultimately I prefer Davis’ clean lines and expressive characters in the “Full Circle” story that is the companion to “Year Two.”
