This was a beautiful and visceral story, a continuation of Jewish folklore, a story about generational trauma, Jewish life in Russia, and a story about family and the power of community.
It is hard to describe this book and how it made me feel, but I feel so much after finishing it. It took me a while to get through, but once I was in the right mindset for this, I flew through the second half, devouring the fantastic storytelling.
It is a complicated time to discuss Jewish history, but this captures our community's struggle in Russia and continued connection to the trauma of the Jewish experience in Eastern Europe fantastically.
I am going to be able to meet the author this evening, and I cannot wait.
