The Lost Elemental by Tessa Hale

3.0

NA. better suited to a younger reader.

Very angsty. Sometimes good, but more often annoying.
Problems are constantly created, and just as quickly solved or ignored.
You never get to get involved, or be immersed within the story, it’s all too quick and very young.

The characters are supposed to be college aged, between 18 and 21, but they read more like teens, 14 to 18.

The FMC is so childish, delicate, emotional, a Mary Sue, with ultimate special snowflake attributes. Though we’re constantly being told that she’s stoic, enduring, ballsy… but other than a few moments, we never see this.

Worst of all is the classic asshole trope, that has one MMC only to smile at the FMC, and suddenly she’s all hot and needy for him, despite his constant cruelty.
At one point, he bluntly stated that he was willing to see her thrown out and permanently harmed in order to protect his brothers against possible harm. Just one of his charming moments.

The world building is very interesting, and what kept me reading. But it’s all too brief. We only get glimpses before we’re dragged off in to another of the FMC’s dramas.

Too young, too angsty, followed by instant and cringe fixes that feel like your reading a high school drama.

I liked 3 of the MMC’s, but not the alphahole or the FMC.

I won’t be continuing, but I could see how a younger reader could enjoy.
