The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

5.0

This was a reread for uni and as much as I love this book, it isn't for everyone. Knowing the historical background to this text is one of the keys to enjoying it, and imo it's not worth forming a full opinion on without reading it twice. This is one of those books where you can read it again and again and get something new out of it every time. My advice would be to READ THE INDEX as you go along, and if you're like me, jot your thoughts down in the margin and annotate the hell out of it to keep track of your thoughts as you read, because this book can get really confusing really fast if you don't follow even for a paragraph.

If you like Soviet history, magic realism, and satire, and have the patience, read this book.
