Bridge of Snow, by Marie Rutkoski

A beautiful scene of Arin's mother telling him a bedtime story. Seeing this is likely the last time he saw his mother, as well as how much 'the stars' play into his character, I have a feeling this will play into the series somehow, but can also be read on it's own and is a beautiful if bitter-sweet story from Herrani mythology. It almost has a haunting sort of beauty to it, and I loved getting to see this scene, and more so that I was able to love this so much after struggling with The Winner's Crime. This is the prose and storytelling I expected after Winner's Curse, and it was such a refreshing reminded of why I loved the first book so much, and Arin's character in this series!
