The Mountbattens: Their Lives & Loves by Andrew Lownie

2.0

An entertaining and gossipy read but definitely more about the 'loves' than the 'lives' and contains much prurient detail (frankly, I'd rather not have known that Dickie habitually wore a condom while horse riding as he found it so arousing...bleurgh). I'm rather fascinated by Edwina Mountbatten as she seemed like a complex, deeply flawed and interesting woman but this book is all gossip and surface detail. I would recommend instead [b:Indian Summer: The Secret History of the End of an Empire|825690|Indian Summer The Secret History of the End of an Empire|Alex von Tunzelmann|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348420973l/825690._SX50_.jpg|844488] by Alex von Tunzelmann for a deeper and more analytical read.
