Woman of Light by Kali Fajardo-Anstine

slow-paced
  • Strong character development? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes

2.5

Unfortunately, I didn’t really enjoy this book. They were several things that I did not like. I am not a fan of dual timelines because to me, it feels like the story is constantly being interrupted. The characters lacked depth and I would have like to see Luz get more development, especially with her magic. I also felt that the plot didn’t really have a lot of development and it was lacking on connecting the stories and making it cohesive, leaving me feeling uninterested. I didn’t like the love interests that we were presented with in this book and the character that I did enjoy the most which was Diego, I wanted to see more of as his story was interesting that fell short. The author did have some beautiful prose and touched a lot on the realities that we still face today. The ending of the book was too abrupt and left me not feeling connected to the characters.
