AMSTERDAM by Fahmi Mustaffa

4.0

Gosh, this book will fuck you up and I can't even decide if it's in a good or in a bad way.

The good stuff - the language is amazing. Fahmi writes clearly about the intangibles - Rumi, Coelho, philosophy. He's clear about what's hurting the main protagonists, their inspiration, their art, their struggles, their universe, their version of crazy. I liked the little stuff, oh, I especially liked the way he describes smoke. I don't smoke but I want it in my lungs each time I read it.

I appreciate the parody, the breaking of the fourth wall, the sarcasm and the lady prophet. I know a pretty lady who talks just like that.

One complaint - I liked the first plot twist but when it turned into a sci-fi, I was kinda mad.

How could you? *pulls hair*

*sigh. Whatever happens, I'm still Fahmi's fangirl.
