The Dom with the Perfect Brats by Sorcha Black, Leia Shaw, Cari Silverwood
4.0
I got this book for review from one of the authors. I do actually talk to Cari quite a lot via email and twitter. I haven’t let any person acquaintance with the author colour my review nor was I paid for it.
Well, this one was a bit of a surprise for me. I usually love Cari Silverwood and, although I enjoyed it immensely, it isn’t one that I adored. It isn’t the writing (that was as good as usual), it isn’t the sex, it’s something else entirely. Although there is sexual tension between the two female characters, one of the characters is completely closeted. The reason they start a sexual relationship is because their Dom “orders” them to do it. Now, I knew from the off that they had feelings for each other but she clearly didn’t want to take it further. Although, the eventual outcome was favourable, it pushed a few of my buttons and I actually put it down. Of course, I picked it back up but this was a problem for me. What I thought was awesome about this storyline though, was that it all happened in the POV of Godfrey. I asked Mr Nix and he completely agreed with all actions/thoughts/uncontrollable lusting done by said Hero ...
Eventually it becomes clear that the struggles with sexuality are a main theme of this book. Although Izzy has accepted her bisexuality, Gemma only accepts that she likes it when Godfrey orders her to do the things that he wants her to do. I suppose you can say that Godfrey, as her Dom, was doing what was best for her by allowing her to explore her feelings for Izzy in a “safe environment”. I felt a little better about it all and started to enjoy the book. The three authors are a fantastic pairing, so seamless that it could one writer who was very good at writing different POV’s. They also write amazingly good sex scenes. Like jaw-dropping sex scenes. I am not new to the FF genre, I care more about the characters than their sexual orientation, and in these scenes are very well written examples of MF, FF and FFM sex.
I loved all of the characters. Godfrey kinda stole my heart in the last book and I enjoyed him trying to deal with his two “vanilla” subs. He couldn’t believe his luck and I giggled at some of the very male reactions he had to being handed control of two very attractive, bisexual ladies. At certain points, he was less Dom and more teenage boy on a power-trip but it was so cute. Izzy was a fabulous heroine, strong in her personality and her sexuality. I adored her all the way through the book but I couldn’t help feel sorry for her with Gemma’s constant rebuttal of her feelings. Gemma, now Gemma was the character that I struggled with. Gemma was so wrapped up in her own feelings that she forgot about everyone else. Clinging to her heterosexuality, she forgot that she was part of a trio and failed to see how her reactions affected the confidence and emotions of her partners. She walked into the situation with her eyes wide open and so should have had some sensitivity for all involved. Honestly, I wanted to like her but my preference for the character of Izzy made it very difficult.
This book tested me, as most of this series has, but this one was more difficult for me than others as it pushed a personal trigger. Aside from that, I really really enjoyed it. It was sexy, angsty and full of well written characters. If you haven’t read any FF yet, and have reservations about doing so, this book is a fantastic place to start. I can’t get enough of this series... and I have a giant lady-boner for Godfrey....
