Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism by bell hooks

3.0

Still full of valuable historic context for intersectionality, particularly in understanding the gendered nature of slavery and the gendered political and social discourse caused by the Moynihan report. To be read with nuance and a critical eye in some areas. My understanding of the sections that are particularly critical of black men is colored by some of the video essays of F.D. Signifier and his dedication to theorizing more empathetically on the issues facing black men and boys for both their blackness and maleness. Definitely made me want to read more work from contemporaries and participants in the Black Panther movement to gain more of that context.
