Better With You by Brit Benson

5.0

I have been anxiously waiting on Better With You since I finished Love You Better. This is the 2nd book in the Better Love series and Brit has somehow made me love this book even more. While this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading in order due to the interconnected stories and timelines.

Bailey and Riggs' story is quite a journey. What starts off as an instant connection between them turns into a secret that makes them enemies and then a competition turns them back to friends before they can be lovers again. Baking brings them together and secrets tear them apart. The secondary stories are just as emotional and hard hitting as the main love story. If you enjoy emotional, heartbreaking stories then you are going to want to grab your box of tissues and sit back and enjoy this one.

Brit writes some of the funnest, strongest females. Bailey was so fierce and passionate. I loved how much she cared for others. She had a lot going on in her life, a loss that still hurt her so much and a relationship with her parents that was barely supportive. Riggs was trying to live as 2 different people, the overconfident baseball player and the baker who learned everything from his mother.

I don’t know what else to say about the book without giving away any kind of surprise that will take away from the reading experience. This was a book I couldn’t put down. There was so much going on and I just couldn’t wait to find out what was next. We got to see Kelley and Ivy again and their friend group is so sweet. The connection between Bailey and Riggs was so powerful that even when they were hating each other you could feel their love. This book was emotional and dealt with some really tough situations. This book made me cry and Brit made me mad, but all because it was written so beautifully heartbreaking. For Brit to tackle some of these subjects that aren’t frequently touched upon and to do it so well was touching. I was a big fan of the epilogue and also Brit’s explanation of why they got the happy ending they did. When two people have faced such monumental losses in their life, of course a happily ever after is necessary for them.

Well if I thought the LYB audio was amazing, Joe Arden and Kelli Tager knocked it out of the park with this one. The story is absolutely fantastic, but when brought to life the emotions really got me in all my feels. This story brings out just about every emotion, I laughed, I cried, I was angry, I swooned… I mean I really swooned, and I cried some more. The way Kelli portrayed the hurt and sadness from Bailey when she felt betrayed, the absolute devastation in Joe’s voice when portraying Riggs sadness. Phew, this one really got me. It hurt in all the best ways. Highly recommend this to anyone and everyone!
