I loved this book dearly as I basically never see proper representation of people who look like me. Quinn was annoying sometimes but that was mostly because of the immense form of sheltering in her life; especially in terms of how to view Black culture and individuals. It was relatable in a heartwrenching way, knowing that she was struggling to fully accept herself and her culture. Carter is also incredibly helpful while also not acting as a savior to her, despite also being Black himself. They learn to coexist and uplift one another, helping each other save themselves from societal influences.
Graphic: Bullying, Racial slurs, and Racism
Moderate: Death, Dementia, and Toxic friendship
Minor: Alcohol
