The Core by Peter V. Brett

DNF.

This series is a perfect illustration of why trilogies are so popular. Most storylines, even one as rich as the Demon Cycle books, can be wrapped up in three volumes. This one should have been. Oh, the cavalcade of characters I did not give one fig about. And the plot points that meant nothing. And pushing Arlen and Jardir to the periphery. I've rarely been so frustrated with a series ending. Thoroughly disappointed and a clear sign that when ideology trumps story, you've lost the plot.
