When Ghosts Come Home has got the wonderfully atmospheric writing I’ve come to associate with Wiley Cash. In the middle of the night a small town sheriff goes to investigate a low-flying plane. He discovers it crash landed at the airport with no signs of pilot or cargo. Then he discovers the body of a local Black man. With a flawed protagonist with a troubled past, and a plot that focuses on racism, drugs, elections and corruption this book reminded me of Attica Locke’s books which I love. One of the storylines centres on the grief following miscarriage, which could be a trigger for some readers.
Graphic: Racism and Grief
Moderate: Murder
