Shatter Me, by Tahereh Mafi

Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.
I decided to reread this because I recently came across someone saying the Shatter Me series was the only one that had the bravery to have the MC date an actual villain, and that spiked my curiosity. I remember reading and liking the book in my teens, but I think I stopped because I wasn’t fond of the main love interest.

I definitely can’t read this anymore. The crossed out writing is fine, I kind of like it, and I don’t mind a bit of purple, all-over-the-place, almost abstract writing, considering the MC has been in isolation for so long. Still, DAMN, does the author go overboard. I even tried the audiobook for a while, but not only was the writing still intolerable, the narrator seemed to be forcing a very sweet voice, which was quite annoying. I guess it's just not for me anymore.
