Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch

4.0

So right before the Christmas season, I saw this book in my local Target. I usually don’t gravitate towards romances, but wanted to change that this new year & read new stuff. The cover to Something in the Heir, with the witty little line “they’re about to inherit trouble” & the fact it’s a historical (correct me if I’m wrong) type book, immediately drew me in. I set it down tho & borrowed the audio book via my library & started listening. I went back a week later & wrapped it up to place under my tree for myself. Silly i know, but i just knew i needed it to reread it again next year!

Oh my gosh. I have never read Suzanne Enoch, but i adore her writing style to bits & pieces! I have heard her other books have much more smut & a lot of the online reviews seem to be disappointed in this book as they expected much more steam than this book gave. But it’s so lovely!!

This book is a delightful romantic comedy that focuses more on the characters building their found family along the way of managing trouble & social life expectations than any steam or smut. There’s virtually no smut, but the romance that builds in it, along with some of the side story, it’s just such a feel good, heartwarming book.

I’d rate this one:

⭐️ 4.5/5 - it left me wanting more & i low key wish the book was longer so the side characters could have been explored more & better! I don’t give it a full 5 start rating due to the fact the lack of the development of some side story & side characters kinda makes a specific event or 2 not really make full sense. But again, it’s historical & wasn’t the main plot, so maybe thats just how the time setting works for some things? Idk! Didn’t ruin the plot at all so I’m trying to not fully hold it against the book as a whole too much!!
